Evaluation Question 7 (Kyle Stoneley 7161)

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Preliminary Task:   Final Product: PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE: •There are a few similarities between  our preliminary task and final product , in terms of the planning process, and differences, such as equipment used and depth of research.  • For our preliminary, we were only allowed 30 minutes of time for pre-production; which included planning the narrative and dialogue. Since the time we had for all 3 production processes was very short, our preliminary was not as high standard as our final product.  • For our thriller opening, pre-production was for about two weeks; where we planned initial ideas as well as final, we researched deeply into the thriller genre and the type of audience we would get and plan scripts and health & safety etc.  • This enabled us to collect the right amount of information needed, like the cha...

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I have used a number of equipment when filming my preliminary task and I was the cameraman therefore had the most experience with the camera and its equipment. This is the equipment I used: -Tripod -Microphone -Canon DSL 650 D with 18-55mm lens -iMac I learnt that every piece of equipment has a different function and they all help in their own way. A tripod is a portable three-legged frame, used as a platform for supporting the weight and maintaining the stability of some other object. A tripod provides stability against downward forces and horizontal forces and movements about horizontal axes. Microphone The Microphone picked up the conversation between the antagonist and protagonist very well. With its different features to help pick up sound this microphone was very useful. How did you attract/address your audience? The target audience for our thriller opening would be anyone aged 15 and above this allows us to use the most effective way of advertising in our time using the Internet. 94% of teenagers in Britain use a platform of social media therefore w e decided to use platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat to advertise our thriller opening. Twitter: Facebook: Internet Banners: We would also have to use different forms of advertisement other than social platforms. and would rather see this than a full description and customer ratings of the film. We also found that 60% of people would actually consider a film depending on how their poster looked and are found in local search results. 94% of total views on average are attracted by content compelling images than content without images. Who would be the target audience for your media product? Age and gender of audience  - Our aim is to have an audience aged 15-25 either female or male to attract a bigger audience. I would aim for our age certificate to be a 15 according to the BBFC regulations. British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) The BBFC say that  they are a trusted guide to media content. Working as an independent, self-financing and not-for-profit media content regulator, the BBFC operates transparent, consistent and trusted co-regulatory and self-regulatory classification and labelling systems in the UK. This was found from their website.  Their aim is: Why 15 as your age rating? Using the 15 certificate as our age rating is the best rating for our thriller opening because it allows us to have a big audience that actively watch films and visit the cinema often. Especially because of our genre of film being a Action-Thriller it will attract us a bigger audience...

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real products? In the image above is my 9 frame of my Preliminary Task. 1 - In the first frame we see our distribution company accompanied by a lion and its roar. Our group was inspired by the Metro Goldwyn Mayer distribution logo. 2 - In the second frame we are presented with our production logo, 'Spartan Production' we used a very original icon to stand out from other production logos. Our aim was to keep it simple. 3 - In the third frame we see a long shot of the protagonist walking along a long road towards the camera. We did this to introduce our main character of the preliminary task. With our third frame the credits can be seen aswell. This idea was inspired by the Walking Dead. 4 - The fourth frame is a low angle panning shot of the protagonist. This was effective as it introduces the setting of our short film. 5 - In the fifth frame is a mid shot of ...

Construction of Filming for New Idea

FINAL PRODUCT CHANGE/CHANGE IN DIRECTION!!!!

Image
Here is the Pitch explaining why we changed our idea. This change began after we had filmed and edited our original plan, after this we showed it to some of our target audience and didn't like the feedback we received so we began to think of ways we could change our idea until we were struck by the totally new idea of 'CHASE'. Even though we knew it would be a challenge due to the remaining time we had, we still pursued this idea and our perseverance gave us the following thriller opening which we thought was excellent and way more better than the original, which then received the following feedback which we were very happy with. Similarities between our old and our New idea: Our protagonist is still involved with a government agency. He is still being chased (no pun intended). Our title have similar effects (Capital letters, big, bold, have special effects added to them) We planned a plot twist for our original idea and we have put a plot twis...

Construction of Filming for Original Idea

Introduction to Foley

Image
Foley Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to film, video, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. These reproduced sounds can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass.    In the image above a Foley artist is recreating the noise of a bike pedalling. When filming in the production stage the acoustics picked up by the microphone while recording are not always clear so sounds are recorded and edited into the visual footage. These sounds are enhanced which improves our audio experience. The word "Foley" is also used to describe a place, such as Foley-stage or Foley-studio, where the Foley process takes place.

26. Research & Planning - Mood Board

Image
The Thriller genre first became popular in the 1920’s-1930’s with films such as ‘The Man Who Knew Too Much’ by Alfred Hitchcock (1934) and ‘The Human'. This mood board clearly depicts an atmosphere of a very sinister and mysterious feel. I have compiled a mixture of images that capture the thriller genre well. The images, specifically of the characters close ups gives an intriguing atmosphere.

25. Research & Planning - Costume ideas

Image
One costume idea is that we have detectives like in Shutter Island.  A second idea is that the actors wear masks as they are criminals.  Another idea is that the actor just wears normal everyday clothes. Another costume idea is actors dressed in black suits with black glasses so they look like agents.

23. Planning - Locations

Image
The locations/settings we will be filming in, is a house and a science lab.
