9. Audience Research - BBFC - 2014 Guidelines

BBFC - 2014 Guidelines Film Certification is a film rating system that is designated to classify films with regard to suitability for audiences in terms of issues such as sex, violence, substance abuse, profanity, impudence or other types of mature content. PG: Parental Guidance Children of any age may watch this alone. A ‘PG’ film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children. 12A: Suitable for persons over the age of 12 The 12A category exists only for cinema films. No one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult and films classified ‘12A’ are not recommended for a child below 12. An adult may take a younger child if, in their judgement, the film is suitable for that particular child. In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult.

9. Audience Research - Thrillers out now

Image
To find out Film Listings for thrillers I used Cineworld. However I only used one exhibitor as Cineworld Feltham is the closest to me. The first film I looked at was Split (20 Jan, 2017). This film is good example to look at as it is a thriller which rated 15. This suits our group because our target audience is 15-25. The film is shown only in the afternoon and the evening due to the age rating, people under the age of 15 usually go earlier in contrast to 15-25 year olds. The second film I looked at was xXx: Return of Xander Cage This isn't as good of a film example to look at as it is 12A which allows people younger than our target audience to watch it. However we can use this to compare the differences between a 15 and 12A.

SHUTTER ISLAND (2010): It's 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston's Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. He's been pushing for an assignment on the island for personal reasons, but before long he wonders whether he hasn't been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister. Teddy's shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals "escape" in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything - his memory, his partner, even his own sanity. THE USUAL SUSPECTS (1995): Following a truck hijack in New York, five conmen are arrested and brought tog

6. Research:Film Openings - 9 Frames Title Sequence Analysis

DEADPOOL (MILLER, 2016) Observations through analysis: In the opening of Deadpool we see the marvel logo pop up which immediately shows that the film will have a high budget, the audience is therefore expecting a high quality film. In the film there are a total of 15 titles however no real names for example for the director it said "some douchebags film" which shows the film is a comedy. In the opening of the film Deadpool through the use of camera angle shots and movements specifically a panning shot we can see the setting to be urban. Finally through costume and make up (mise en scene) we can tell the film is about super heroes due to the bright coloured costume.

FIGHT CLUB (FINCHER, 1999) Observations through analysis: In the opening of Fight Club through the use of mine en scene, specifically through the use of sound we can see already the genre of the film.  The music in the opening of the film was loud and fast paced  which immediately links the film to action and adventure. In the opening there are a total of 21 titles ranging from the actors to the costume designer. In the opening they show what happens in a persons brain when their life is threatened. They do this through camera angles shots and movement with many extreme close ups. However I do not feel they did this effectively.

4&5. Preliminary Task and Eval

Image
Evaluation of Preliminary Task Our preliminary task was to produce a short film Pre Production In the pre production process we had a limited time therefore a well planned script and storyboard was not able to be made. Production In the production stage we filmed in a large hall, unfortunately the speech between the characters cannot be heard. However, we had a lot of free space to use while filming which was great and we used items such as a box and table for props which was in the hall. Post Production We imported all the video footage onto a program on the Mac called Final Cut Pro. This was a very useful program as it was easy to use especially when editing all the footage and putting it together. We carefully chose our music for the footage and when we finished we uploaded it onto YouTube. Conclusion I learnt how to be useful in the all production stages and I found my strongest point. I was good at editing and filming.

4&5. Preliminary Task and Eval

Image
Preliminary task evaluation: Pre-production -In the pre-production process as we did not have much time we did not write a storyboard or a script and just came up with an original concept (The Chase), w e also did not have any costumes or props that we could use. We had to make use of our space around school as we were not aloud off site to film and after walking around the whole school we decided the best place to use was the science block. Production During the production stage we used techniques such as match-on-action and shot reverse shot to create verisimilitude. Post production Finally in post production we imported everything on to the MacBooks and used final cut pro to edit our film. We pieced together the scenes as we wanted using continuity editing. We then added sound effects, music and credits. What went well? We included a shot reverse shot successfully. We had a finished film. We used Match-on-action successfully.  Even better if? Re shoot some

4&5. Preliminary Task and Eval

Image
Our task was to create a one minute film with the main objective of using continuity editing; this involved filming and editing a character opening and closing a door, crossing a room and sitting down opposite another character, with whom he/she exchanges a couple of lines with. To aim to the highest standard of continuity editing we had to make sure that we filmed using three specific techniques; Match on action, Shot Reverse Shot, 180 degree rule. Explanation; Match on action-   refers to film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. Shot Reverse Shot- a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. 180 degree rule- a cinematography guideline that states that two characters in a scene should maintain the same left/right relationship to one another . When the came
