Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Preliminary Task Final Product Pre-production: A main difference between my prelim and my final product is different cast and crew, this is because I was in a different group. Another big difference between the prelim and my final product is the research and preparation that went into each. For the prelim we barely done any research or preparation but for the final product we done loads, for example making a script and drawing up a story board. Production:  The biggest similarity between our preliminary and our final product is the use of the same equipment which includes camera and tripod. However for the final product we used a microphone which increased the quality of our final product. The main difference between our preliminary and our final product is the location. Due to the limited time for our prelim we had to film on sight (St...

What have you learn't about technologies from the process of constructing your product? Technologies we used in the process: Canon DSL 650 D with 18 - 55 mm lens: Although I was not the cameraman and therefore didn't have much experience with the camera, when I did use the camera it was easy to use and easy to film with. However one con that I would say is sometimes it was hard to focus with.   Microphone:  The Microphone picked up the dialogue of the actors very well and blocked out most of the background noise. Although when it picked up the dialogue the sound quality was very good, sometimes the mic wouldn't pick up the sound and we would have to film again. Blogger: Blogger was very useful throughout the production process of our thriller opening as it helped us to record our research and ideas with ease. However when producing something on blogger especially when using pictures it would become frustrating when the layout would change (from...

How did you attract/address your target audience? Our target audience is young adults/teenagers aged 15-25years of age. We decided  tho have this age rating as it is perfect for a thriller as it allows us to use a lot more violent/age restricted scenes. Also this age demographic has the most disposable income making them the most profitable target audience. The best way for us to reach our target audience is through social media due to our low budget and young target audience. Examples of social media sights we would use would be Twitter and Facebook. Another way we can reach our target audience is through our movie poster. For a successful thriller poster the main protagonist (Elrad) should be in the foreground and be the centre of attention. In addition the poster should include dark colour, mainly black to create a dark mood or to emphasise the brighter parts of the poster. Finally the most important aspect of the poster is the image, the image will take up mos...

Looking back at your preliminry task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Preliminary task Full product Pre-production stage In our preliminary we only had 30 minutes to plan our movie whereas for our final product we had around a week to plan our script, storyboard and narrative. This means we had enough time to plan our film and plan costume ideas and settings we need. Production We filmed our preliminary task in school and planned shots we would use as we were filming whereas for our final product we already had our shots planned and could film straight away. In both we used similar shots which were shot-reverse-shot, 180 degree rule and match on action. Post-production For our preliminary film we only had a lesson to edit our film whereas for our final product we had a week to edit. In both the preliminary and finished product we added music and a production picture. In both we used fina...

How did you attract/address your audience? Our target audience is 15 year olds to 25 year olds. Our title appears to our target audience as it is a dark background which shows it is scary and a simple word CHASE. It is a simple word that gives away an idea of what the film will be about and older people don't like horrors and prefer movies with more complicated narratives. The audience would be drawn into the film as they excited and the film building suspense will make me people want to keep watching. Also plot twists such as when the protagonist discovers the antagonist new his dad makes the audience ask questions such as why is his father significant and what is going to happen next. We targeted our target audience through social media such as Twitter and Facebook. Posters for our movie will be on buses and billboards.

Who would be the target audience for your media product? We conducted surveys on survey monkey. What we discovered? We discovered our target audience is between 15 and 25 year olds.  The majority of our audience is between 15 and 17 year olds. We have a mix of male and female audience. What certificate we choose to make it We choose to aim it at a 15 certificate as the majority of our audience is between 15 and 17 year olds. This is a suitble certificate as we have limited swearing, violence and sexual content. 15 rated certifciate means no one younger then 15 can watch our film but from our surveys no one under 15 was in our target audience so it wouldn't really affect the amount of people who watch our film. If more of our target audience was between 18 and 25 years old this would of allowed us to add more violence, sexual content and swearing but an excessive amount of this would not fit our type of film. Similar thriller with certificate 15 ...

How does your media product represent particular social groups? Comparison between the Protagonist of 'The Chase' and a Real Protagonist: My protagonist reminds me of Alex Rider (Alex Pettyfer) from 'Alex Rider: The Stormbreaker'.   Here are some similarities and differences between the two: Similarities: Both roundabout the same age. Athletic Military changed; weapons, hand to hand Great Combat fighter Works for secret service Courageous  Brave Smart Adaptable Has family in secret service Differences: Come from different backgrounds; one grew up knowing that his family was part of the secret service, Alex was propelled into the scenario in under a day. Alex is very confident about himself whereas the Protagonist doubts himself a lot.   Alex talks more and is more childish (or comedic) with the things he does/says. Ethnicity Comparison between the Antagonist of 'The Chase' and a Real Antagonist: ...

Looking back at your preliminry task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? To remind you again here is our Prelim Task and our Full Product... Preliminary Task -  Full Product -   PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE: •There are a few similarities between  our preliminary task and final product , in terms of the planning process, and differences, such as equipment used and depth of research.  • For our preliminary, we were only allowed 30 minutes of time for pre-production; which included planning the narrative and dialogue. Since the time we had for all 3 production processes was very short, our preliminary was not as high standard as our final product.  • For our thriller opening, pre-production was for about two weeks; where we planned initial ideas as well as final, we researched deeply into the thriller genre and the type of audience we would get and plan scripts and health & safety etc.  • Thi...

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Canon DSL 650 D with 18 - 55mm lens: Strengths: Clear shots as it has 18 megapixels allowing high quality. Can easily be maneuvered when handheld. Used beforehand so with filming the thriller we know what to press, best way to use it and tips given to us in terms of white balance which were easy to follow. The lens allowed us to change focal points between the range of 18 - 55mm meaning that we didn't have to move to get a clear shot of something close or far. The lens has image stabilization controls to make video smoother while recording. The camera was touch screen making the user interface easier to use and allowing the user to change certain aspects easily such as ISO change, aperture, shutter speed and white balance. Weaknesses: The battery life was an issue as at one point we had to rush through filming to get it in and we continuously had to p...

Evaluation Question 5 (Elrad)

How did you attract/address your audience. Our Target Audience; Our thriller is a 15 certificate and our expected audience is 15-25 either male or female. Meaning no one younger than 15 are authorised to watch the film in the cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy the film.  This allows us to create a thriller with aspects such as swearing and violence. Advantages of having an age 15 certificate is that we can have a larger  and mature audience.  Storyline: First of all our storyline is based off a man who is running away from something but it eventually catches up with him and he is forced to face it. In our opening we see the main character visiting a grave (old friend/lover/family???) we then see him noticing he is being followed but then the follower disappears, he begins to run and the follower catches up with him they are then confronted with each other and the main character finds out that the f...
